Just how a bar in a market town should be.

Farmers fresh from the market, ladies who lunch, dads with buggies, walkers with dogs and groups of friends.  The bar at Plato's rings with laughter and friendly conversation.  People come to relax over a coffee and a newspaper, to enjoy a hearty breakfast or an impromptu lunch.  In the evening things really come to life as our selection of fine local ales and handpicked wines comes into its own. 

We're aware that in other places there's a trend for uncomfortable seating to keep you coming to the bar but we don't hold with that.  We know that our wares are tempting enough to keep you wanting more so our seating is comfortable - relax, kick off your shoes and stay awhile.

Great conversations flourish as the friendly Kirkby Lonsdale townsfolk mix with guests from further afield. In the country you'll find there's no need to hurry - so we stay open until the last weary guest wends their way home.
